Origami Matthews Butterfly
This origami butterfly model is by Ralph Matthews. It's a fairly straightforward design that yields a nice-looking butterfly!

Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 1: Start with a 6 inch x 6 inch (15cm x 15cm) square origami paper, color side down.
Fold paper in half on the vertical axis. Crease well and unfold.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 2: Fold the right side to meet the center line. Crease well and unfold.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 3: We're going to cut out 1/4 of the paper. Cut at the crease line made in Step 2. Discard the small strip of paper.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 4: Fold paper in half on the horizontal axis.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 5: Fold paper in half on the vertical axis. Crease well and unfold.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 6: Pry paper open on the right side. Bring the top right corner to the center then make a squash fold by pressing paper flat.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 7: Flip paper over.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 8: Fold paper in half on the vertical axis.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 9: Pry paper open on the right side. Once again, make a squash fold by bringing the top right corner to the center then pressing paper flat.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 10: Make 2 diagonal folds. Crease well and unfold.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 11: Now use the creases you made in Step 10 to make 2 inside reverse folds. This is a commonly used fold technique in origami.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 12: Rotate paper 180 degrees.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 13: Fold down the upper layers.
Origami Matthews Butterfly Step 14: Crease the center line so that the origami butterfly is not completely flat.
