Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star
A reader named Rosie made the easy kusudama cherry blossom but wanted something that has "clean lines and looks like a star". Well, we managed to modify the easy kusudama cherry blossom and came out with this model! It does require 5 units and they have to be glued together to form the star.

Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 1: Start with a square paper, color side down. We used a 4 inch x 4 inch (10cm x 10cm) square scrapbook paper.
Fold paper in half on the vertical diagonal axis. Crease well and unfold.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 2: Starting from the bottom, fold both sides to the center. Crease well and unfold.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 3: Make a horizontal valley fold as shown. Crease well.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 4: Starting from the top, fold both sides to the center.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 5: Fold paper in half by making a mountain fold.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 6: Open up the left layer.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 7: Fold the bottom tip to the top. Crease well and unfold.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 8: Now tuck the bottom tip under the top layer.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 9: Fold the left tip to the diagonal edge.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 10: Fold the right layer over to the left.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 11: Fold the bottom right tip to the diagonal crease.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 12: Fold the right layer over to the left.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 13: Pry open the paper in the center.
And press it flat.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 14: Pry the center open again and you now have a diamond shape unit. This completes one unit.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 15: Repeat Steps 1 to 14 and make a total of 5 units.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 16: To form the 5-pointed star, first glue 2 units together as shown.
Origami Kusudama 5-Pointed Star Step 17: Repeat Step 16 for the other 3 units.
Here's the completed origami kusudama 5-pointed star! You should be able to form a kusudama ball by making 12 of these and gluing them together.
