Origami Modular Mandala
Origami modular mandala is a 16 unit modular origami. The units are fairly easy to fold and the assembled origami is pretty. Unfortunately the units could not maintain its shape when all 16 units were assembled and required some extra help (glue) to keep it together.

Origami Modular Mandala Step 1: Start by folding the origami square base with the color on the inside. The square base is a commonly used base in origami and we've created a separate page of instructions for it.

You should have the following to start with. The opening is at the top.
Origami Modular Mandala Step 2: Fold the top layer from the right to left.
Origami Modular Mandala Step 3: Fold down the top tip. Crease well and unfold.
Origami Modular Mandala Step 4: Fold the bottom tip to the center crease.
Origami Modular Mandala Step 5: Fold down the top tip again.
Origami Modular Mandala Step 6: Flip paper over.
Origami Modular Mandala Step 7: Fold down the top tip.
And this completes one unit.
Origami Modular Mandala Step 8: Repeat Steps 1 to 6 and fold a total of 16 units.
Origami Modular Mandala Step 9: To assemble, bring 2 units together. Place one unit in between the other. Orientate the units as shown in the photos below.
Origami Modular Mandala Step 10: Make a mountain fold and tuck the tip of one unit under the other unit.
We initially tried the assembly without any glue and it just could not hold its shape with all 16 units assembled.
For the first few units, it was fine. But as you assemble more and more units, it starts to lose its shape.
So save yourself some trouble and use some glue as you assemble each unit.
Origami Modular Mandala Step 11: Flip paper over. Make a mountain fold on this side as well to tuck in the tip.
Origami Modular Mandala Step 12: Repeat Steps 10 and 11 for all the units.
